Ashley Madison, a controversial dating website, was set up in 2008 with the explicit aim to help married people have affairs – sparking outrage in the press and intrigue among curious spouses. In 2015 hackers  targeted the site demanding the website be shut down, threatening to expose the intimate and salacious secrets of its 37 million users.
