THE DETECTIVES: MURDER ON THE STREETS

This four-part series follows Greater Manchester Police’s Major Incident Team over a year.

In Episode 1, a burnt body is discovered in a homeless camp near the city centre. But with no CCTV and no witnesses, detectives have little to go on. As extensive forensic work is carried out at the scene, the investigation leads detectives into the world of Manchester’s young homelessness crisis. Also in this episode, a woman is the victim of a horrific petrol bomb attack and a manhunt is underway to find the perpetrator.

In Episode 2, detectives continue the investigation into the murder of homeless man Daniel Smith. And a local man in Bolton has gone missing, but with no body found the case proves to be challenging for MIT.

In Episode 3, a suspect is in custody in the case of the missing Bolton man and forensic teams searching his property have discovered traces of blood in his flat.

In the final episode, as the trial date in the murder of Daniel Smith approaches, the main suspects are pleading not guilty. With detectives and family together at court, the outcome is now in the hands of the jury.

The access is staggering, the stories are heart-breaking and the storytelling is magnificent

This superlative series brings order to the chaos of urban crime

The Telegraph

It was shot like a glossy Nordic-noir drama. This fictionalised styling made the horrifying reality of the murders even more intense
