BBC Two, 2008

THE FALLEN

Broadcast shortly after Remembrance Day 2008, The Fallen’ is a powerful and poignant film in which families and friends of those who have died whilst serving with the British Armed Forces in Afghanistan and Iraq talk openly about their feelings, their loved ones and their grief.

Epic in scale, this landmark three-hour film gives a rare insight into the personal impact and legacy of loss. Alongside intimate testimonies from families who have lost loved ones, The Fallen’ names every single serviceman and woman who has died in Afghanistan and Iraq since 2001. Behind each of these names are family members who have suffered and will continue to do so.

‘The Fallen’ is a stark reminder of the human cost of conflict.

I'd be astonished if we see a more moving film this year, or next
