VALLEY COPS

Documentary series following South Wales Police, where everyone knows everyone, and cops and robbers are on first-name terms.

Filmed over six months, this series shows the complexities of policing and crime in a remote community.

‘Rhino’, a drugs police officer who has lived in the area all his life, puts it like this:

“It’s an informal way of policing, but I don’t think a strict regimented way of policing would ever work round here. It’s not in our DNA. We go and have a chat, that’s our make-up, that’s who we are”.

The series explores a range of criminal cases by following the cops who grew up in the Valleys, and now police their own geographically and socially unique corner of Britain.

As Ryan, the custody officer says “Sometimes I get members of my extended family coming in. It can be a bit awkward…”
